HSD assisted Ambio Health meet its tight production window with industrial design, component selection, high volume injection molding engineering and documentation control for both the consumer medical Gateway and multiple wireless dongles.

HSD started the process with competitive and analogous research. The users needed the system to monitor health, record activity, and help them maintain their healthy lifestyle. HSD worked with physicians, nurses, educators and other providers to design Ambio to help them work efficiently and effectively.

Ambio Health enables the user to take readings using compatible branded blood pressure meters, glucose meters and scales anywhere in home. Using Ambio wireless connectors, readings are automatically sent to the Ambio Care Portal. By logging into the Ambio Health portal, users can monitor status and compare readings to pre-established thresholds. A log of all readings is available to monitor progress and can be printed or emailed to care providers. There are pre-set customized alert levels for all health meters. When a reading goes beyond those thresholds, it will trigger a notification. The user can choose how and who they want to get notified and set notifications preferences via email, telephone or text message.

Research shows individuals are more likely to stay healthy when they have a support network. Ambio Health’s Care Circle option keeps the support network informed of the user’s status and progress. Care Circle members can review the status dashboard, get alerts/alarms, and coordinate their support using a shared calendar and message board.

Prior to the FDA, Ambio had been piloting its technology with physicians and with diabetes educators. “We’re seeing providers saying that they really like the format [of the reports]” because they are more complete than handwritten logs and don’t have legibility issues, Jones said. “It makes them more efficient.” The Ambio Health system was rewarded as a finalist for the MDEAs along with a 2013 “Caregiver Friendly” Award.
