Business Development Manager

HSD is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to take a leadership role in developing design and engineering opportunities with potential new clients in the medical, life sciences, consumer medical and government sectors. The successful individual must have a proven track record of developing and winning design, engineering, and product development opportunities with Fortune 500 Companies as well as highly funded start-ups. The ideal person for this position will be a strategic thinker, an excellent communicator, independently goal motivated and have knowledge of the product development process.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Identify business development opportunities from new clients
  • Meet with potential clients, including travel as necessary.
  • Develop marketing materials for submittal to potential new clients.
  • Develop strategy for opportunities and review with senior managers.
  • Develop and lead proposal efforts.
  • Develop and lead interviews.
  • Coordinate pricing requirements with senior managers
  • Identifying partners to comply with opportunity requirements.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in design or engineering or MBA or equivalent

Human Factor/User Research

HSD is looking for a HFE or Research oriented person to assist in the front end user requirements through the development of FDA submitted medical products. The position demands experience and knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative user-centered research methods, including knowledge of formative and summative testing procedures. Demonstrated experience in problem solving, decision-making, and collaboration skills excellent communication and negotiation skills are required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating the research plans
  • Writing test protocols
  • Recruiting the appropriate users for testing
  • Coordinating test facilities
  • Competitive product and environment benchmarking and analysis
  • Creation of surveys for user group studies and web based research
  • Ethnography and Cognitive analysis
  • Workflow and Task analysis
  • Development of Personas, Storyboards, and Use-cases
  • Human Factors and Heuristic reviews
  • Safety and issue analysis
  • Usability testing and validation
  • Research moderator
  • Analysis and assessments of testing
  • Prepare deliverable reports
  • Lead presentations to clients
  • Providing best practice recommendations to clients
  • Provide the design team with expert and meaningful input based on user needs

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human factors, psychology, user experience research, social sciences, or equivalent field required; Master’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • 5+ years related work experience, preferably in a corporate and/or consulting environment
    Experience in all phases of research from product design through development
  • Experience and knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative user-centered research methods
    Understanding and knowledge of ISO 62366 and HE75
  • Practical use of testing software and video recording instruments

Mechanical Engineer

HS Design has an exciting opening for a creative Mechanical Engineer. We are looking for a team member who shares our passion for creating great products in a family, highly creative, collaborative environment. Products range from Medical, Life Science and Consumer Medical.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and design “New Products” in a design centric and creative Cross-Functional Environment.
  • Ability to work with various manufacturing and material processes (Injection Mold, Low volume plastics, Die Cast, Sheet Metal, and rapid prototyping).
  • Ability to work in a collaborative group (ID, ME, SE and EE) to develop and lead mechanical designs.
  • Can develop Design Verification Plans and Product requirement documentation and Design History Files.
  • Ability to design, build and assemble test fixtures (Fluidics knowledge a plus).
  • Facilitate Cross Functional DFMEA Reviews.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills.
  • Ability to assist in proposal estimation and client management
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, Solidworks and Solidworks Simulation Tools.
  • Experience in Design Control / DFM / GMP / FDA / ISO9001/ ISO13485 standards.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years experience in new product development design and manufacturing
  • Experience in medical industry preferred
  • Proficiency with Solidworks
  • Solidworks Simulation a plus
  • Proficient with GD&T
  • Excellent verbal & written skills
  • Knowledge of various Engineering processes
  • Experience working in design control environment

UX Designer Intern

Our ideal candidate is self-driven, collaborative, a great communicator, and has hands-on experience in UX design and User Interface design. The candidate should be familiar with activities such as site mapping, concept generation, wireframing, prototyping, user personas/profiles, and user research. In addition, the ideal candidate thrives in a work environment where there is constant collaboration between strategy, design, and engineering.

  • Seeking a student or recent graduate with self-starter attitude
  • Familiar with best practices in user experience and user interface design; interested in learning new tools, methods, or software
  • Strong communication skills, both in multidisciplinary team collaboration and client presentations
  • Involvement in end user research to explore, uncover and analyze end user requirements during user interviews, usability testing, etc.
  • Must be able to work a full-time at our office in Gladstone, NJ
  • Examples of work via a portfolio is required for qualification


  • Must have or be working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Sciences, Communication Design, or related/relevant discipline
  • Must be proficient in Adobe CC – Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign
  • Must be able to present, animate, or effectively communicate attractive UX concepts, of both low and high fidelity
  • Must be capable of rapid prototyping
  • Comfortable presenting work to clients
  • Background in usability testing or user research is a bonus
  • Visual design skills are desired
