BioNano Genomics Irys™ & Iyrs Chip

The Irys™ system is a genome mapping system that empowers genomics researchers with a new way of analyzing genomic DNA. Irys™ makes it possible to routinely and accurately detect genomic structural variation, and to finish genome assemblies. Earlier and more effective disease diagnosis translates directly into significantly lower treatment costs, less invasive diagnostic procedures, and more effective and successful outcomes.

BioNano Genomics, coming out of the R&D laboratory, wanted to create an instrument for the life science industry that complimented its game-changing, proprietary technologies for rapid, efficient, and highly reproducible analysis of biological molecules. The result of this partnership with HSD is the IRYS, an instrument now being used successfully in research institutions in conjunction with a disposable nanochannel array “chip” that simplifies the users’ experience and increases workflow in the laboratory environment. As a system, the IRYS system permits fast and efficient processing, labeling, detection, and analysis of extensive segments of DNA and other biomolecules. The BioNano Genomics Irys™ System was selected as a finalist for the 2013 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) in the In Vitro Diagnostics category. HSD collaborated with BioNano Genomics and Sparton Medical Systems on the design and engineering of the instrument and disposable cartridge.
