Canfield Scientific VISIA Gen 7

VISIA® Gen7 is the next generation of complexion analyzing technology from Canfield Scientific. Canfield’s precision subject imaging system, clinical quality lighting and MatchPose® live image overlay continue to change the way skin care professionals work with their patients. The new VISIA Gen7 system captures perfectly registered images of left, right and frontal facial views, and automatically analyzes the images for surface and subsurface skin conditions.

Over this period of time, Canfield has established a strong reputation and a highly loyal customer base. Previous generations of VISIA set the standard for the type of high-quality equipment that is valued and expected by customers. The VISIA Gen7 was designed to not only meet customer expectations in terms of image quality, but also to improve experience in terms of usability and aesthetics. Building on the brand identity of the previous generations of VISIA was essential to maintaining this customer loyalty, and for this reason, was a driver throughout development.

Design

Our design team focused on enhancing the Canfield brand by creating an elegant form with complex surface geometries, a robust assembly with minimally visible hardware, and a recognizable design language with multi-colored, high-gloss RIM molded parts. Aside from modernizing the iconic VISIA design language, this next generation product was developed with special consideration to human factors, ergonomics and multiple use environments. In the cosmetic context, it is important for the VISIA to convey the perception of luxury and glamour. In the context of a dermatologist’s office, the design must carry a clean and minimal aesthetic. In each of these contexts, usability, user interaction and accurate imaging were of utmost importance.

Design

During this process, the team worked diligently to maintain a balance between achieving the most comfortable head support for the patient whilst abiding to these rigid requirements. This balance of form and function is what makes the Canfield VISIA Gen7 an excellent solution and sets the device apart from competitors in the market.

User Experience

The dynamic functionality of the VISIA Gen7 allows for natural front and oblique image captures, eliminating any potential wrinkling of skin caused by movement and head repositioning experienced in the previous generation device. This single position capture eliminates discomfort and helps to improve imaging accuracy. The chin and forehead rests serve to position and stabilize the head of the person being examined, resulting in extremely accurate positioning with highly repeatable results. The handle location and design make the device rotation fluid for the technician with a simple and effortless push/pull action. This allows the user to position the device into the desired orientation with ease, without disturbing the patient. By opening the area for the face, the design creates a less-invasive atmosphere for the person being examined. This design consideration was intended to make the experience more comfortable for both the user and the patient while images are being taken.
