Tor Alden, of HS Design, to speak at the world’s premiere medical devices conference. The conference provides a national forum to bring together world-class medical device designers, researchers, manufacturers, and the public sector to share perspectives and innovations in medical device design.

Tor will be part of a panel on the collaborative nature of medical devices.   Medical device design is inherently collaborative and increasingly important as development budgets are tight increasing the importance of developing the right device the first time. This panel discussion with industry leaders will discuss internal and external partnerships, the tools and processes which promote collaboration as well as challenges for effective interactions.

Ambio Health, a healthcare technology company, announced the debut of an innovative, new, wireless Remote Health Monitoring System. The company demoed the Remote Health Monitoring product at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Digital Health Summit.

The Ambio Remote Health Monitoring System monitors weight, blood pressure, and blood glucose levels, and was built from the ground up to meet the needs of patients, their families, and healthcare and managed care providers.

The Ambio Remote Health Monitoring System costs significantly less than competing monitoring solutions, creating a more affordable option for consumers. Healthcare systems will also realize cost efficiencies as they deploy Ambio devices within large populations of chronic disease patients who are at high risk of hospitalization.

HSD assisted Ambio Health in the design and engineering of the consumer medical Gateway and wireless connectors through to manufacturing.  The wireless connectors transmit the patients readings automatically to a Health Portal, providing tools for members and their care circle to help them stay healthy.

According to the PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Health Research Institute “Healthcare Unwired” report, 88% of physicians would like their patients to be able to track and/or monitor their health at home, with the greatest interest in monitoring weight, blood sugar and vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate respiratory rate).

HSD is proud to have been part of the Vectra H1 hand held imaging system design and development.  Completely self contained with integrated flash and ranging lights, it’s ready to go with minimal staff training.  The system incorporates a wireless transmission to a workstation PC and photographs are captured directly into the patient chart.

AAMI, The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, is a nonprofit organization supporting the heath care community in the development, management, and use of safe and effective medical technology.

HSD joined AAMI’s Human Factor Engineering Committee to assist in the further development of new standards in the medical design community.  Standards such as HE75  assist medical device manufacturers to better conform to FDA 21CFR 820.30 and IEC 62366.

AAMI is the primary source of consensus and timely information on medical instrumentation & technology.

HSD helped develop the new Connect Live, a camera mountable 2-GHz microLite HD wireless transmitter.  The Connect Live is designed to address both domestic and international broadcasting band requirements within a single unit.  HS Design worked with NuComm to develop the Innovative Industrial Design, Brand Identity and Mechanical Engineering.  It recently debuted at the 2012 IBC Show and received the TV Technology Europe STAR award this year. The STAR Award (Superior Technology AwardRecipient) is designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. Congratulations to IMT!

PrimeraDx ICEPlex and C. diff Assay was recently cleared in Europe.  PrimeraDx out of Mansfield, MA received the CE Marking for its ICEPlex real time multiplex PCR system and the accompanying C. difficile assay. PrimeraDX partnered with HSD’s usability experts on the creative product design including ethnography, formative user requirements, graphical user interface, industrial design and engineering development of the Instrument and User Interface of the ICEPlex System.  For more information about the ICEPlex System click here.
